Artist Statement

Much of my work focuses on lucid investigations of my relationships. Being raised as an only child has led me to deeply attach to the people in my life and seek sustaining connections. I also believe being an only child my whole life has made me vulnerable to my sensitivity and vulnerable to how the actions of others can affect me. While being vulnerable to my emotions, being an only child simultaneously taught me to have a self-reliant independence. As a multimedia artist, focusing on printmaking and photography, my work consists of various approaches to exploring relationships and the universal language of emotion. In my printmaking work, I weave my personal symbolism to evoke emotion in elements like: butterflies, dinosaurs, purple rabbits, fish, and flowers in a collage-type manner creating movement throughout the compositions in my work. My photography centers on experiences I've shared with loved ones that may feel familiar to the viewer- like looking at houses at night, checking out cars, or collecting found objects. Even if these types of moments aren't already part of the viewer's world, my work invites them to share the act of seeing these encounters with me. Each work tells a little about myself while stimulating the viewer to relate the work to their own lives and experiences.
